Lesson Plan in Music IV

  1. Objective:

Through a song, the Grade IV pupils with 75% accuracy are able to:

  1. Recognize the different percussion instruments.
  2. Discuss about showing love and appreciation for the country’s own products.
  3. Sing a song with its proper hand movements.

Pictures of percussion instruments
Recorded sounds of percussion instruments
  1. Procedure:

  1. Motivation

Let the pupils sing the song after demonstrating it. Change the name of the instruments into: bells, sticks, shells, and blocks. Demonstrate to the class how to play them while singing.

Ask: 1. What are the instruments mentioned in the song?

2. Who among you knows how to play the instruments that are mentioned?



  1. Presentation
  1. Show pictures of percussion instruments.
  2. Classify the instruments according to:
  1. The material used in making it.
  2. The way of playing or producing the sound.
  1. Let the pupils listen and compare the sounds produced by the percussion instruments to the other groups of musical instruments.
  2. Explain the kind of sound each instrument produced: Ex. Bells-ringing
  3. Have the pupils listen to a musical performance using percussion instruments.
  4. Ask the following questions:
  1. How many instruments are there in the percussion group of instruments?
  2. What are the similarities and differences of the instruments?
  3. Where do we usually hear or see musical performances using percussion instruments?
  4. Do we have percussion instruments in the Philippines? Where else can we see these instruments?
  5. As a Filipino, do you find it very important to continue listening and developing our skills in playing the percussion instruments?
  1. Closure
Encourage the pupils to give their own summary of what they have learned.

Numbers 1-5., write P if the instrument shown is an example of a percussion instrument and write N if it is not a percussion instrument.
